Conversion changes how pixels are stored, not their dimensions: width and height stay the same, so use Resize Image when a form asks for an exact size. JPG and WebP are lossy, PNG and BMP are lossless, and transparency survives in PNG, WebP and ICO (GIF keeps a single transparent colour). Camera and GPS metadata is stripped from the download by default.

JPG, PNG, or WebP — which should you choose?
There is no universally best format; match the destination. A portal that demands JPEG cannot take WebP, and a logo with a transparent background should not be flattened into JPG. Use the table on this page with these rules of thumb:
- JPG: photos, phone snapshots, and forms that explicitly require JPEG. Small files and universal support, but no transparency.
- PNG: logos, screenshots, UI mockups, and any image where text or sharp edges must stay crisp. Lossless and keeps transparency, so files are larger.
- WebP: the usual pick for websites. Usually smaller than JPG at similar visual quality and it supports transparency, so it can replace both for modern browsers.
- GIF: legacy embeds limited to a 256-color palette. Photos band badly; choose PNG or WebP for photographs.
- BMP and TIFF: older Windows software and print or archival pipelines. Files get very large — convert to them only when the destination demands it.
- ICO: browser favicons and app icons. Build from a square logo so every embedded size stays sharp.
What conversion changes — and what it does not
The converter rewrites how pixels are stored. It does not resize, crop, rotate, or retouch them: width and height stay exactly as uploaded, so a 4000×3000 photo is still 4000×3000 after conversion. The quality slider applies only to JPG and WebP; PNG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, and ICO use lossless or palette encoding, and the slider is disabled for those formats.
- Lossy to lossless: JPG → PNG prevents further loss but cannot recover detail the JPG already threw away.
- Lossless to lossy: PNG → JPG discards data. Keep the PNG master if you may edit the image again later.
- Transparency: PNG and WebP keep the alpha channel. JPG and BMP have none, so transparent areas are filled with the color you pick.
- Metadata: with Strip EXIF on, camera, GPS, and timestamp tags are removed from the download. Pixel colors themselves are untouched.
- Repeated conversion: every JPG → JPG pass adds another generation of artifacts. Convert once from the original whenever you can.
Security & Privacy
Your image is used only to produce the converted file you asked for. We do not look through your pictures or use them for anything else. Even so, avoid uploading images you would not want to share online, such as scans of personal documents, unless you are comfortable with that.
Common Use Cases
- Portal and form uploads. Many application forms accept only JPG. Convert your PNG or WebP before submitting.
- WebP images from the web. Turn a downloaded WebP picture into a JPG that opens in any editor, gallery or document.
- Smaller files for email and WhatsApp. Photos saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPG.
- Print and archive work. Convert to TIFF or high-quality PNG when a printer or archive asks for it.
- Design and web work. Switch formats to test file size, compatibility and quality for a website or social post.
Batch conversion, ZIPs, and file size
Select up to 40 images and they are converted with the same format, quality, and metadata settings. The estimate beside the quality slider is a guide for the first image in the batch, not a guarantee — final size depends on the encoder and on how much detail each photo contains.
- Need a hard size cap? Convert to WebP or JPG first, then use Compress Image with a target in KB.
- Need exact pixel dimensions? Convert first, then open Resize Image for a precise width and height.
- Need one PDF for a portal? Send the converted images to Image to PDF.
Tips for Best Results
- JPG has no transparency. If your PNG has a transparent background, that area will not stay transparent after conversion. Keep the PNG if you need it.
- Photos suit JPG, graphics suit PNG. Logos, screenshots and text stay sharper as PNG. Photographs are usually best as JPG.
- Convert from the original. Each time you re-save a JPG, a little quality is lost. Start from the original PNG or WebP when you can.
- GIF is limited. It supports only 256 colors, and an animated GIF converted to a still format keeps just one frame.
- BMP and TIFF files are large. Use them only when a workflow requires them, not for sharing online.
- Need a size limit like 100 KB? Convert to JPG first, then check the file size. If it is still too big, reduce the dimensions or compress the image.
